Training the way that we do is a pretty remarkable thing.
What else can you do that will literally shape your reality in the way that training does?
Training is both beautiful and authentic because you measure yourself against your own high internal standard, or at a minimum you gain an understanding about what your personal standards are for yourself.
One might argue having a child would answer this question however even then, the conversation is more about being selfless and changing yourself but really for the love of another.
In this scenario you develop the traits to be the parent you want to be, so that you can be a good example and role model.
Some might argue that different sports put you in a similar situation, however I say that compared to many sports where individuals or teams are usually fairly evenly matched and the objectives technique or strategy based (such as a football game or a javelin thrower).
Training the way we do is more of a battle of one’s mind against themselves as it is against anyone or anything else.
“Runners in a a race ought to compete and strive to win as hard as they can.” Chrysippus
Chrysippus was an ancient Stoic and is one of the first great minds to link exercise to expanding the mind and living a more complete life.
The genuine link and overlap between physical training and mental training is undeniable even in ancient times.
He used long runs to prepare himself for the challenges life had in store for him, and in the feats of intellectual endurance he faced in his life at that time.
A long distance run will sort out who wants to run and hide in plain sight in the race or who wants to win the race.
Do you think that people in essence are that much different today?
So lets get real. It’s not what you say that lives past your time; its not what you write, or even anything you have built.
It’s the things you live by, the character you have developed for yourself. It is the example you set.
Ask yourself: if my children were watching me train in a hard workout, would I do anything differently?
Better believe they notice what you do way more than anything you could say.
Coming into Sisu will deliver profound results beyond physical strength.
Let it consume you.
We are going into week 8, but if you take testing week out and a deload before that we really have 3 weeks to achieve this objective. Mid cycle (weeks 6 & 7) brigs a drop in energy as it has done historically, and week 8 is like the first play of the second half coming out of the locker room.
We have an opportunity this week to set the precedent for the remaining time in this cycle.
We have the time to do anything you believe in, however noting will change unless you do.I am issuing a Sisu Challenge (Nick and I included).
We made a goal for ourselves to make the current cycle the best one we have had yet at Sisu and that is what we will do.
Come in every day with a mindset focused on learning, applying knowledge, and is focused on the future and what you plan to do to make your future a reality.
When you come in to the gym (and maybe more importantly OUT of the gym) as yourself: “How can I use my time to make things better instead of worse?”
If you keep this action mindset for three short weeks, you will find yourself on a path that you want on be on in life.
We have the method and the means to make this happen. It is up to you have far you want to take it.
We are here for you no matter how far your destination is, but you must decide.
Let’s attack this week in a way that we haven’t felt in a while. Lets start the second half with aggression and channeled energy towards grabbing our life by the balls and leaving nothing behind in every training session for 3 short weeks.
We aren’t here to run, we are here to “win the race”
Challenge is issued. Get some.
