I remember starting college, everyone was so confident. There was this unchecked level of certainty with almost all incoming freshman. We all said we we’re going to be an engineer, doctor, lawyer, etc. And with the most sincere ignorance, we believed that since we got into college and started taking classes, we were all but guaranteed to reach that career in four short years.
In reality, after one year, half of us were still on track for what we thought our career was going to be. Another year goes by, even less. But I think we learned real quick that there are no guarantees and there is so much work to be done between setting goals and achieving those goals.
“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” – Jim Rohn
Just like walking into any gym, there are no guarantees on your success. You can’t just show up and go through the motions. And even if your attendance is good, you’re not entitled to shit. Actual discipline is the secret ingredient to success in anything.
College was a metaphor for life, and a good one, because it keeps getting more expensive. Even though we have zero guarantees, we are guaranteed to learn the importance of developing discipline to achieve anything worthwhile.
