“Motivation may get you started, but it takes disciple to keep you going” -01.05

It’s easy right now. Motivation is on full bore. The new year just started. It’s week 1. Energy is high with everyone. Things look pretty good from the top. But what about when that motivation inevitably goes away? Because it always does. Motivation is fickle.

One method I use for consistency or when shit gets tough once motivation leaves, is giving myself only one option. And that option is the hard way. Take two cents for example. Do I want to take a year off from writing every Tuesday? Fuck yes. But I do it anyways, no matter how tired I think I am, no matter if I have no clue about what to jot down, I do it.

Another example is today’s workout . If you told yourself that your only option is to work for the entire 20 seconds every single time, then you’ll do just that. As opposed to choosing to quit early or not complete a rep for fear it may cut into your rest time.

By giving yourself only one option, you then suck it up and do exactly that. It’s about keeping your word to yourself. Just like you do at the beginning of the 12 weeks. If you make a commitment to yourself or someone else, give yourself one option, FOLLOW THROUGH.

It’s something called discipline. And when you pair that with consistency, you have no limits. Don’t rely on motivation, it’s fickle. You’re better than that.
